Infoseek News Defunct
Infoseek is no more. As of March 8, 2001, the former Go.com Web site no longer uses an Infoseek-based search engine. Instead, the search box is powered by GoTo. Thus, the Infoseek News Search is also gone.
This review will continue to be available to provide an historical record of the search capabilities that the Infoseek News Search used to have.
The above URL links to the Infoseek news wires page. At the bottom of that page is the typical Infoseek search query box. It offers three choices for news searching: News Wires, National News, News Web sites.
- Dates: Past month available
- Sources: News wires includes Reuters, PR Newswire, Business Wire. National News appears to covers Web sites of major U.S. news sources including ABC news, CNN, USA Today, and MSNBC. News Web Sites is even broader and at this point is almost a duplicate of the general Infoseek Web search.
- Sort: Appears to be first by day, then by relevance (or random) rather than by day and time.
- Frequency: Hours
- Case Recognition: Yes
- Stop Words: No
- Truncation: No
: + and - symbols only
- Phrase: Phrase searching can be designated by double quotes "" around a search phrase.
