Google's More has More
Earlier this month, Yahoo! changed their "more" menu. Recently Google has been expanding theirs. A week or two ago I noticed that on my campus, Scholar had suddenly appeared in the more >> menu. I've checked that frequently, and it was never their or above the search box previously. Other campuses (and even certain other organizations) have reported that a Scholar link was above the search box, but it had not been available to me. It is still not showing up above the search box, but at least it is under more >>.
Off-campus, I still do not see Scholar listed, but last week Google expanded the other links to include Blogs and Patents. I'm surprised to see Patents suddenly being pushed when it has just launched, but I do think it is a good idea to have more choices show up in that more >> box. So why can't Scholar be there as well? Here's the off-campus screen shot:
For that matter, I'd like to see Directory and News Archive added there as well. I tried playing around with the Personalized Home Page (which I don't use) and preferences, but Google does not seem to like giving users the option to choose which of their databases gets listed within more >> or listed above the search box.
